Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Knife
  • Small spoon or piping bag for eyes

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Combine the ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, minced garlic, salt, and pepper in a large mixing bowl. Mix everything together until evenly incorporated, using your hands or a spoon.
  3. Shape the seasoned meat mixture into small, evenly-sized meatballs, about 1.5 inches in diameter. Place them spaced apart on the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Bake the meatballs in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, until they are browned and cooked through, and the edges are slightly crispy.
  5. While the meatballs bake, cut the thawed puff pastry into thin strips, roughly 1/4 inch wide, to resemble mummy bandages.
  6. Once the meatballs are baked and cooled slightly, wrap each one with the pastry strips, overlapping slightly to mimic mummy wrappings. Gently press the strips onto the meatballs to adhere.
  7. Return the wrapped meatballs to the baking sheet and bake for an additional 8-10 minutes, until the pastry is golden and crispy.
  8. Remove the mummy meatballs from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes. Use small drops of frosting or icing to attach candy eyes to the wrapped meatballs for a spooky effect.
  9. Arrange the mummy meatballs on a serving platter and enjoy their festive, crunchy exterior paired with tender meat inside.
